It is remote, and mostly only accessible by boat.

2. Bimini: Bimini is located just 50 miles from the coast of South Florida and is known for its crystal clear waters. The island is a popular destination for big game fishing and is home to a variety of fish, including wahoo, marlin, and tuna, and the reef fishery is just as good. Bimini is easily accessible by boat or flight, but that also results in more divers and fisherman. The fish have more pressure and can be a bit more skittish.

3. Exuma: The Exuma Cays are a chain of 365 islands and cays located in the southern part of the Bahamas. The area is known for its clear waters, coral reefs, and abundance of marine life, including grouper, snapper, and lobster. Easily accessible by plane, the Exumas are a great balance of low pressure and lots of infrastructure. Home to some of the finest resorts in the Bahamas.

4. Abaco Islands: The Abacos are a long string of barrier Islands bordering the north/northwest side of Great Abaco. Accessibility by boat and plane make this area a hot spot for Florida-based spearfisherman and fisherman to "island hop" and enjoy some of the best spearfishing and beach bars that the Bahamas has to offer. 

Equipment Needed for Spearfishing 

To go spearfishing in the Bahamas, you'll need some specialized equipment. Here are the essentials:

1. Pole Spear or Hawaiian Sling: Unlike most of the world where we can spearfish with a proper speargun, the Bahamas restricts divers to only primitive gear.  A 6'-10' polespear is the main tool used by most spearfishermen in the Bahamas, but the more traditional Hawaiian sling is also enjoyed by those who prefer a more "old school" challenge.

2. Wetsuit/Rashguard: A wetsuit is essential for keeping warm in the water and protecting your skin from jellyfish and other potential hazards. Most of the Bahamas is blessed with enjoyably warm waters in the Summer, so in most cases a simple, thin lycra rash guard will suffice.

3. Fins, Mask, and Snorkel: Fins are used to propel you through the water and help you maneuver more easily. We prefer to use longfin style fins which are designed specifically for freediving. Mask and snorkel: A mask and snorkel are necessary for seeing underwater and breathing while diving. Remember comfort is key! Try on several masks and go with the most comfortable for you!

4. Other Accessories: We recommend a pair of cut resistant gloves, a properly weighted dive belt, and a dive knife as a couple other key accessories.

1. Always dive with a partner: Having a diving partner is important in case of an emergency, as well as working as a team will be more productive! 3. Be aware of your surroundings: Keep an eye out for any potential hazards, such as strong currents, other boats, and sharks. Also always keep an eye on your dive partner and be aware of what they are doing.

Spearfishing is the most selective way to harvest fish from the ocean, so don't take more than you need and always do your best to harvest mature sized fish.
